What is Chronos?

Chronos is a structured educational platform that takes you through every aspect of watch collecting, from the basic principles of timekeeping to the nuances of building a distinguished collection. Named after the Greek personification of time, Chronos represents our commitment to preserving and sharing the art of horology.

How to Use This Resource

The masterclass is organized into logical sections that build upon each other, allowing you to:

  • Understand how mechanical watches work, from mainsprings to escapements
  • Progress from fundamental concepts to advanced collecting strategies
  • Develop a trained eye for quality and craftsmanship
  • Make informed decisions about watch purchases
  • Understand the market dynamics and investment potential
  • Learn proper watch care and maintenance

A Personal Note

I created Chronos not just as a guide for others, but as a solution to a challenge I personally faced in my horological journey. My knowledge of watches, was initially like Swiss cheese – full of holes. As the Swiss cheese paradox goes: "Swiss cheese has lots of holes. The more holes you have, the less cheese you have. And the more cheese you have, the more holes you have. Thus, the more cheese you have, the less cheese you have."

This paradox perfectly describes the challenge many watch enthusiasts face. We accumulate knowledge, but sometimes this knowledge exists in isolated pockets, disconnected from other crucial pieces of understanding. Through creating this masterclass, I aimed to fill these holes, connecting the dots between different aspects of horology, from technical specifications to market dynamics, from historical significance to modern innovations.

By organizing this knowledge systematically, I've created a comprehensive framework that I wish I had when I started. It's designed to help you avoid the "Swiss cheese" problem in your own horological education, ensuring a solid, well-connected foundation of knowledge.
